Description
Dekton is an ultra-compact engineered surface made by Cosentino, offering a sleek and highly durable alternative to traditional stone for fireplace hearths and slip sets. Its high resistance to heat, staining, scratching and everyday wearmakes it particularly attractive for modern fireplace installations, while the large range of colours allows the hearth to coordinate with almost any interior.
Popular Dekton Colours for Fireplaces
Popular choices include Laurent, with its dramatic dark background and warm gold veining; Kelya, a sophisticated dark stone effect; Sirius, for a simple near-black contemporary appearance; Kreta, a versatile cement-inspired grey; and lighter marble-effect designs such as Aura and Rem. Availability can change as Cosentino updates its collections, so current colours should be confirmed when ordering.
Pros & Cons
Advantages: Dekton is non-porous, highly stain resistant, scratch resistant and exceptionally easy to maintain. It also has very good resistance to high temperatures and is available in consistent colours and stone-effect patterns, making it particularly suitable for clean, contemporary fireplace designs. Unlike many natural stones, it generally requires no sealing.
Things to consider: Dekton is an extremely hard material but can be vulnerable to chipping around exposed edges if heavily impacted. It also requires specialist cutting and fabrication, so bespoke hearths can be more expensive than some traditional materials. Although heat resistant, the hearth must still be correctly designed and installed for the particular fire or stove, including any appliance-specific requirements for joints, thicknesses, clearances and thermal protection.
Cleaning & Care
Everyday maintenance is straightforward. Remove ash and loose debris before wiping with a soft cloth, warm water and a mild neutral cleaner. Avoid aggressive abrasive pads or striking the surface and edges with heavy fireplace tools.
