Granite Hearths and Slips
Our granite hearths and slip sets offer a strong, durable and stylish finish for fireplace and stove installations. Granite’s natural strength and heat-resistant qualities make it an excellent choice for hearths, while its distinctive mineral patterning provides a premium finish that complements both traditional and contemporary fireplaces.
Sizes & Bespoke Options
Our standard hearth size is typically 54″ × 15″ (1370 × 380mm), with made-to-measure hearths and slip sets available to suit your individual fireplace opening and surround.
Hearths can be supplied flat for a simple, streamlined appearance or boxed and lipped to create a deeper, more substantial front edge. Depending on the fireplace or appliance requirements, we can also manufacture hearths in one-piece or two-piece configurations.
Granite Finishes
Choose from three different finishes to achieve the look you want:
- Honed – a smooth, matt finish with an understated, contemporary appearance.
- Polished – a smooth, glossy surface that enhances the granite’s natural colour and pattern.
- Leathered – a tactile, lightly textured finish that brings out the natural character of the stone while providing a softer, less reflective appearance.
Matching granite slip sets can be cut to frame the fireplace opening, creating a neat transition between the fire or stove and the surrounding fireplace.
With standard and bespoke sizes, multiple finishes, flat or boxed-and-lipped hearths and one or two-piece options, we can produce a complete granite hearth and slip-set package tailored to your fireplace installation.
Description
Granite is an excellent choice for fireplace openings, hearths and slip sets, combining natural stone character with exceptional durability. Its strength and wide choice of finishes make it equally suited to traditional fireplace surrounds, open fires and contemporary stove installations, subject to the correct specification and installation.
Pros & Cons of Granite
Advantages: Granite is extremely hard-wearing, durable and resistant to everyday scratches and marks. It is easy to clean and available in honed, polished or leathered finishes, allowing the appearance to range from understated and matt to highly polished. Its natural colour and mineral variation also mean every hearth and slip set is unique.
Things to consider: Although very strong, granite is still a natural stone and can chip or crack if subjected to heavy impact or excessive thermal stress. For installations exposed to significant direct heat, particularly solid-fuel fires, the hearth may need to be sectioned into two or more pieces rather than manufactured as one solid slab. The correct construction will depend on the fire, fireplace and installation requirements.
Cleaning & Caring for Granite
For everyday care, simply remove loose ash, soot and dust with a soft brush or vacuum before wiping the granite with warm water and a mild pH-neutral natural-stone cleaner. Dry the surface with a soft cloth to minimise streaks and water marks, particularly on polished granite.
Avoid using bleach, acidic cleaners, abrasive powders, wire brushes or aggressive household chemicals, as these can damage the finish or any protective sealer. Spilt liquids and staining materials should be cleaned away promptly.
Granite may also benefit from a suitable natural-stone sealer, particularly around working fireplaces where soot, ash and other deposits are common. Always use a product specifically suitable for granite and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
