Chesney Fireplaces – THE FRENCH & ITALIAN COLLECTION

Description

The Chesneys French & Italian Collection, also known as the Continental Collection, celebrates the more decorative and expressive fireplace designs associated with France and Italy. Inspired by the Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo periods, these fireplaces are characterised by elegant proportions, sweeping curves, serpentine forms and beautifully carved ornamentation, creating a more dramatic alternative to traditional British chimneypieces.

The collection currently contains 20 designs, including fireplaces such as The Marseilles, The Provençale and The Navarre, alongside other French and Italian-inspired chimneypieces. The Provençale, for example, is a Louis XV design with a serpentine front and carved central cartouche, while the Marseilles takes a simpler approach based on a traditional Provincial French cheminée.

Natural materials are central to the collection, with fireplaces produced in luxurious marbles and limestones, including Statuary marble and Italian Bianco Avorio limestone. Chesneys draws on decades of experience restoring original antique fireplaces to faithfully reproduce the proportions, carving and architectural detailing of historic French and Italian designs.
